Dong Nai province leads in banana exports, with a production volume exceeding 700,000 tons per year.

With nearly 21,000 hectares of banana plantations and over 80% of its production destined for export, Dong Nai is gradually asserting its position as Vietnam’s banana capital in the international market.

Trade promotion: A leverage for building the brand of Dong Nai bananas.

Recently, the People’s Committee of Dong Nai province organized the 2026 Banana Export and Agricultural Product Export Promotion Ceremony in Bau Ham commune. The event attracted the participation of businesses, cooperatives, and producers, creating a space to connect the value chain from production to consumption and promoting the export of the province’s key agricultural products.

At the export ceremony, 11 containers with a total volume of 220 tons of South American Cavendish bananas were exported to Japan, South Korea, and China. These markets have high requirements for quality, food safety, and traceability, demonstrating the increasingly improved capacity of Dong Nai’s banana industry to meet international standards.

Accordingly, Dong Nai has nearly 21,000 hectares of banana plantations, producing over 900,000 tons per year, with an average yield of approximately 55 tons/ha. The province has been granted 54 banana growing area codes covering nearly 7,300 hectares and 37 export banana packaging facility codes. Approximately 80% of the province’s banana production is for export, with key markets including China, South Korea, Japan, and Malaysia.

The large-scale production and increasingly systematic management of growing areas and packaging have helped Dong Nai become one of the leading localities nationwide in banana production and export value, gradually forming large-scale specialized banana farming areas.

Beyond just export activities, the 2026 banana export and agricultural export promotion event also carries the significance of extensive trade promotion, contributing to the promotion of fresh bananas and other key agricultural products of Dong Nai province to the international market.

Through this event, stakeholders have the opportunity to exchange experiences in agricultural production and business, strengthen linkages between producers and businesses, and gradually form a sustainable agricultural value chain. This is also an important condition for expanding consumption markets and increasing the added value of agricultural products.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dong Nai province, the 2026 Dong Nai province banana export and agricultural export promotion ceremony is an important milestone to promote the province’s key, high-quality fruits; it serves as a bridge connecting managers, scientists, businesses, and farmers to learn together, connect, and expand markets. In the future, the agricultural sector will continue to plan concentrated production areas associated with brand building and diversify export markets.

Aiming to become the banana export hub of the country.

In 2026, Dong Nai province continues to aim for increased banana exports, contributing to positioning bananas in particular and the fresh fruit industry in general on the world agricultural map.

Despite the volatile global economic situation, banana exports by businesses in the province continue to show positive signs. The volume and value of banana exports in the first months of 2026 continued to increase compared to the same period last year, indicating that market demand for Vietnamese bananas remains high.

Export prices for bananas shipped in containers range from 19,000-20,000 VND/kg, motivating producers to expand planting areas and invest in improving product quality. Despite increased input costs due to international market fluctuations, businesses are still striving to ensure supply, maintain export orders, and expand their markets.

Notably, besides traditional markets like China, many businesses have gradually approached and expanded exports to new markets in the region, contributing to market diversification and reducing dependence on a few large markets.

Experts believe that the trend of consuming safe agricultural products with clear traceability is opening up many opportunities for Vietnam’s banana export industry in general and Dong Nai in particular.

Besides the achievements, the banana export industry is also facing many challenges, especially the increasingly high demands for quality, food safety, and disease prevention in crops.

One of the current concerns is the risk of banana diseases, especially Panama disease, which can affect yield and product quality. Therefore, researching and selecting disease-resistant banana varieties suitable for local soil conditions is an urgent requirement to ensure the sustainable development of the industry.

Furthermore, adhering to safe production processes, maintaining complete production logs, and implementing product traceability are also mandatory conditions to meet the requirements of the export market.

To develop a sustainable banana industry, it is necessary to reorganize production into a linked chain from seed production and cultivation to harvesting, packaging, and export. Simultaneously, it is essential to promote the application of digital technology in production management, traceability, and improve product quality management capabilities.

In the coming period, Dong Nai province will continue to implement policies to support the development of linked chains, encourage businesses and individuals to invest in developing banana growing areas that meet export standards, and gradually increase the added value of banana products.

With its advantages in production scale, experience in agricultural exports, and increasingly infrastructure, Dong Nai is gradually moving towards the goal of becoming a major banana export center of the country.
